Avila Adobe is the oldest standing house in Los Angeles. Free, and it closes around 5:00–6:00 PM — go straight there before anything else.
Honest note: recent visitor accounts describe the atmosphere as quieter than its historic reputation, with variable vendor presence. Go, and go with respect. It is a working historic community, not a set.
