Peter Zumthor's David Geffen Galleries opened April 2026. 110,000 square feet on a single elevated floor, thirty feet up, physically spanning Wilshire Boulevard. One organic curve, no straight lines, 243 floor-to-ceiling windows.

The curatorial argument is the part you will care about: 45 curators spent years rearranging the entire permanent collection around the world's major bodies of water — Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Mediterranean — instead of by date or nation. Indonesian batik beside Spanish painting. Twenty years and $724 million spent making an argument about how art history should be organized.
