The road to the top backs up badly near sunset — give yourself 30 min more than you think you need.
Recommended — rideshare, ~$38. Back to the AC Hotel by 5:10 PM. Shower, change. Order a car at 6:00 PM. Thirty to thirty-five minutes in evening traffic. Drop-off is the red zone just past the horseshoe driveway.
Alternative — Metro + DASH, $2.25. Pico Station → A or E Line one stop → 7th St/Metro Center → B Line (Red) toward North Hollywood → Vermont/Sunset → up to street level → DASH Observatory shuttle, 50¢, every 15–20 minutes, runs till 10:00 PM. Rides to the end and drops at the front lawn. About 55 minutes door to door.
