If you would rather have a sure thing, Little Tokyo is two A Line stops south. Daikokuya for tonkotsu ramen — the line moves — then Far Bar in the Far East Building, a long narrow alley bar with a serious whiskey list.
Prefer a dive? King Eddy Saloon (554 S Spring St) has been pouring since 1906 — one of the last real Prohibition-era holdouts downtown, a block from Pershing Square. A grittier alternative to Far Bar's whiskey list.
